The Brown Deluxe with the 6G3<\/strong> circuit is unlike any other Fender amp from that era. Leo’s approach\u2014to make the amps sound as loud as possible without distortion\u2014worked the least here. When you hear him speak, he reminds you more of his colleague Jim from England.
\nThe reason for the \u201cabnormality\u201d lies in the circuitry. Unlike the 5E3, the brown one has a long-tail phase inverter that provides significantly more gain than the simpler split-load circuit that preceded it. And then there’s an additional amplifier stage, because half of the tremolo tube is still left. To avoid overdoing the gain, only about 10% of the working resistance is used here, but even that is enough to produce a singing crunch sound starting at volume 3. To get clean tones, you’ll need to adjust the pot on the guitar.
\nOf course, we’re using transformers from Mercury Magnetics<\/strong>here as well, and we certainly didn’t skimp on the iron\u2014especially in the power transformer.
\nAs usual, the amps are hand-wired using high-quality components and a great deal of expertise and attention to detail\u2014and you can hear that from the very first note.
