Description
The Captain Buddy Jr. is a lightweight, portable two-channel tube amplifier with reverb and a switchable master volume control. This makes it the perfect choice for club gigs, for the rehearsal room, for a session with friends or even at home
The master volume makes it possible to reduce the 40Watt to a tolerable volume without any significant loss of sound. In live operation this allows for a foot-switchable solo volume boost. The first channel delivers sounds from ultra-clean to powerful crunch, the second channel serves all other sounds up to fat rock licks and carrying lead sounds.
The amplifier is built in all-tube technology and has no semiconductors in the signal path. Channel switching and all other switching functions are performed by high-quality relays and not via optocouplers. An automatic level reduction (muting) for a few milliseconds ensures noise-free switching between the channels. This is especially important when a Delay is used in the loop path.
Compared to the conventional Captain Buddy Amp, the modular configurability has been dispensed with, the most frequently used options are fixed: reverb, effectsloop and switchable master. This saves costs in production, which are directly reflected in the final price. Also the use of Hammond transformers helps to reduce the price of the Captain Buddy Jr. by almost 25%. Nevertheless, the Buddy Jr. still remains a real Captain Amp, it is hand-wired with good components, a lot of know-how and attention to detail – and you can hear that from the first touch.
The speakers are either a Celestion Classic Lead 80 or a Celestion V-Type. The V-Type is very mid-ranged speaker and shows off its british influence especially in the distortion channel, whereas the Classic Lead 80 has a rather flat frequency response and offers a bit more transparency and fullness in clean sounds.
