This guitar combines all the elements that make up the legendary reputation of early postwar Martins: light weight, exceptional resonance, and an open, well-played-in tone that has had more than 70 years to develop.
One unique feature is the “Little Doyle” branding on the blanket. There is no reliable documentation regarding its origin. This is likely a personal mark left by a previous owner. A connection to the American musician Little Buddy Doyle is suspected, but cannot be substantiated and is therefore expressly not claimed.
The ceiling is also interesting: 1953 falls within the so-called “Mystery Top” period in Martin’s history, during which it is still debated today whether Adirondack spruce was used alongside Sitka spruce. Regardless of the type of wood, this instrument impresses with its exceptionally lively and balanced sound.
An authentic vintage Martin from a top vintage—lightweight, beautifully broken in, and with a story all its own.
Various repairs to the sides, bottom, and top are visible. The guitar was refinished, and it was probably also given a neck reset. The decal was replaced.
An instrument for musicians and collectors who value character over perfection.
