The more you had, the higher up the food chain you were.
The TC 2290 is such a bolide, which is still popular today.

The TC Electronic 2290 digital delay (19 inch, 2 RU) was introduced in 1985 and continued to be produced basically unchanged until 2005.
This made it one of the longest produced rack effects units ever and one of the most popular delays anyway.

However, this was not only due to the maximum delay time of 32 seconds, but mainly due to the many modulation functions and the fantastic sound quality.
A true industry standard, in other words.
