With the Nighthawk series, Gibson sought to breathe new life into its product lineup in 1993. The body shape is based on the Les Paul, with slightly modified curves. The construction remains traditional, with a set mahogany neck and a mahogany body with a laminated maple top. Available with two or three pickups, selectable via a blade switch with master tone and master volume controls (tone control features a push/pull function for humbucker coil split). The wiring and bridge are modeled after Fender guitars. There were three different model types, which varied in terms of features (Custom, Standard, and Special). Production was halted again in 1998.
This Gibson Nighthawk Special SP-3 in Heritage Cherry is part of the model line with the basic configuration. Dot inlays on the fingerboard, maple top without flame, top binding only. It's in good condition, with a few minor scratches and dents. There are now a few chips in the paint on the ceiling. The frets are still in good condition. Unfortunately, it has a slight smell of cold smoke.
