2011 3 Monkeys – Grease Monkey GM II Head & 2×12 Cab – ID 6173

The Boutique Amp Manufacturer 3 Monkeys no longer builds amplifiers, but now only manufactures solderless cables.
The company was founded in 2008 by Greg Howard (who, among other things, was a guitar tech for Green Day, Aerosmith, Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes), Ossie Ahsen (custom amp builder for Aerosmith and the Goo Goo Dolls), and Brad Whitford (rhythm guitarist for Aerosmith).
The amplifiers were handcrafted in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

This half-stack is in very good condition; the head has been inspected in our amplifier repair shop. The vertical 2x12" trapezoidal speaker cabinet (wide at the top, narrow at the bottom) shows slight signs of wear.

The new GREASE MONKEY II is the same as the original GM, but now includes a MASTER volume control.
The GM II is an unbridled four-EL84 amp with a distinct British tone, featuring a switchable HI/LO INPUT GAIN and a MASTER volume control.
The low end of the preamp is controlled by the SHAPE control, which offers three options: 1-Bright, 2-Regular, and 3-Meaty. The CUT attenuates the high frequencies and is bypassed when turned fully counterclockwise. The BASS control adjusts the overall low end, while the TREBLE knob adjusts the overall high end. The VOLUME control adjusts the preamp's volume, and there is zero negative feedback, making the GREASE MONKEY II incredibly harmonically complex.
